To truly be considered a purple state, Texas Democrats need to get over the hump and finally notch a statewide victory. There have been many close races since then, but Republicans have managed to win them all. While Democrats have narrowed the margins in recent years, they haven’t actually won statewide since 1994. By definition, a purple state is one that both parties can win in. However, even with these Democratic gains, Texas still hasn’t shown that it is a purple state yet.
